Arts Center presents The Annie Moses Band

The Arts Center of Cannon County presents The Annie Moses Band Friday, September 5th at 7:30PM

The Annie Moses Band is an American string band comprised of a family of Juilliard trained musicians and award winning songwriters named for the teens’ great-grandmother, Annie Moses. The band, combining styles ranging from classical to pop to country fiddling, features the brothers and sister string trio of violinist/vocalist Annie Wolaver, violist Alex Wolaver, and cellist Benjamin Wolaver all award winning performers and currently scholarship students at the Julliard School of Music in Manhattan. Add the veteran song writing talents of their parents, Bill and Robin Wolaver, and you have a dynamic group with roots in classical, pop, and jazz.

"The group merges the excellence of classical training, the fun of popular music, and the message of faith and family, to create a refreshing sound and an inspiring message," a spokesperson said. "They have performed on Good Morning America, Public Radio International, and in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall. They also have performed with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, Starling Chamber Symphony, and the Nashville Youth Symphony, among others."

Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and groups of ten or more and $8 for students. The Arts Center is located on 1424 John Bragg Highway, Woodbury.
Arts Center Presents The Mink Slide Acoustic Band

Named after the area on Murfreesboro’s Vine Street where weekly Friday night dances took place before World War II, the Mink Slide musicians play the same mix of blues, gospel, country, and ragtime that characterized rural roots music before commercialism broke it into marketable pieces.

Band members include
William Howse on harmonica & guitar
William is a master of the styles of such older players as DeFord Bailey and Sonny Boy Williamson in addition to the more modern Chicago style that William used when he led The Nationals, middle Tennessee’s popular blues band.

Jack Pearson on Mandolin & guitar
Jack is nationally known for his electric guitar styles in jazz (Jimmy Smith), blues (The Nationals), and rock (the Allman Brothers, the Jack Pearson Band). Jack’s acoustic guitar and mandolin work might be less well known but display the same high standards.

Elizabeth Pearson on old-time banjo & string bass Elizabeth is a tasteful drop-thumb player of fiddle and banjo tunes on the 5-string. She’s equally adept on the string bass in an acoustic setting or on the electric bass guitar she plays in the Jack Pearson Band.

Bruce Nemerov on guitar & banjo
A Grammy award winner, Bruce plays fingerstyle guitar learned from masters Mississippi John Hurt, Maybelle Carter, and Mance Lipscomb. A reformed bluegrass banjoist, Bruce now plays 5-string in the older two-finger mountain style.

All the Mink Slide musicians sing old songs and write new ones. Come join them for an evening of musical entertainment at The Arts Center of Cannon County on Saturday, September 6th at 7:30PM. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, students and groups of ten or more. The Arts Center is located on 1424 John Bragg Highway, Woodbury. Office hours are 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., Monday through Saturday.
White Oak Craft Fair Returns!

The work of over 75 craft artisans will be available for purchase as The White Oak Craft Fair returns for its 19th year, offering something of interest for everybody who delights in items and products that are individually designed and hand crafted. From 9:00am until 5:00pm, Saturday, September 13th and Sunday, September 14th, the Arts Center of Cannon County will host the top craft artisans from throughout the region who will offer for sale their original textiles, jewelry, woodcarving, metalwork, pottery, photography, chairs, baskets, ironwork, stained glass and much more.

The White Oak Craft Fair takes place along the banks of the East Fork Stones River just down from the Arts Center. More than 75 artisans will present an enormous variety of work, all of which is chosen for it excellence and integrity by a highly respected selection panel. In an age when mass production makes so many things widely available, the White Oak Crafts Fair celebrates the inspiration and skill of the individual maker as well as being an opportunity to appreciate uniqueness. This is an event, whose reputation has spread to attract new attendees from across the region as well as appealing, year after year, to regular visitors. “2008 is no exception, and the panel has done an excellent job in choosing an interesting and eclectic mix of craft artists, a number of which are new to the event”, comments Donald Fann, Executive Director of The Arts Center.

In association with the Cannon Association of Craft Artists, The Arts Center of Cannon County has developed and coordinated this event for the past 19 years. Although a high percentage of the participants in the show are typically perennial favorites, new exhibitors join the show each year, so there is always something new and fresh for visitors to look forward to. Along with food booths to tempt the palate and quench the thirst, The Arts Center Cafe will provide great southern cooking inside the Arts Center. In addition a Children’s Activities Tent will be provided by the Art Department of the Cannon County High School allowing young children (and their parents and grandparents) a chance to re-hydrate, sit down and slow down with special activities planned just for them.

So make your plans now to visit the White Oak Crafts Fair, but be sure that you give yourself plenty of time because you will not want to miss all that this year’s fair has to offer. The 19th Annual White Oak Crafts Fair will be held September 13th and 14th just down from The Arts Center of Cannon County, 1424 John Bragg Highway, Woodbury. Fair hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm both days. For additional information call 615-563-2787 or 1-800-235-9073 or visit our website at
