The Living Well with Chronic Conditions (LWCC) program will be conducted once a week for six weeks beginning February 7 at 12 noon at the Cannon County Senior Center in Woodbury. This program is intended for anyone living with a chronic condition, family members, friends and caregivers of an individual with a chronic condition.
Each session is two hours in length. Space is limited to twenty participants. Call the Senior Center at 563-5304 to register today. There is NO registration fee as it is funded through UT Extension, Family and Consumer Sciences and Department of Human Service secured grants.
This includes the cost of the program, materials and the book Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, a $15.00 value.
Developed by Stanford University, this evidence-based program teaches practical skills on managing chronic diseases. Participants learn about self-management of their health condition and ways to work effectively with their health care professionals.
This program was offered last spring in Woodbury and was very beneficial to those who participated with one participant commenting that the LWCC program “made me look at changes that I could do to make handling my life better. The weekly action plan made me accountable for the changes I put in place and having to report my progress really motivated me to get it done.”
Through this interactive program, participants gain confidence in their ability to cope with their health condition and become motivated to make lifestyle changes, adhere to prescribed medical treatments and become informed patients.
Contact Carla Bush, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, at the UT Extension, Cannon County Office if you have questions about this program, cybush@utk.edu or 615-563-2554.

On February 23, the Cannon County Farm Bureau is the sponsor. The University of Tennessee has been conducting research on alternative methods of disposing of deceased livestock animals. During the past year, researchers have conducted a trial with deceased horses, dairy cows and an assortment of livestock animals. Their findings will provide an alternative to the traditional “dead animal” pickup. This service has not been available in the county due to the cost. Shawn Hawkins, Assistant Professor with the University of Tennessee Extension Service will provide insight on the status of the trial and practical alternatives for the livestock owner. Others topics to be discussed on the 23rd include: update on the control of wild hogs in Middle Tennessee, EPA policies effecting agriculture and update on legislative issues being considered at the Tennessee General Assembly concerning animal abuse, child labor and transporting livestock. There is no charge to attend Farm Family School and everyone is welcome to attend!

Horse Night is scheduled for March 1st. Dr. Bridget McIntosh will discuss Parasite Control and Nutrition Needs for the Stabled Horse. This session is sponsored by the Cannon County Walking Horse Association.

All meetings will be held at the Woodbury Lions Club Building beginning at 7:00. In the event of severe weather or change in the 2012 schedule, listen to WBRY radio, WBRY.com or cannoncourier.com. Help spread the word, bring a friend or neighbor to Farm Family School! For more information please contact the Cannon County Extension Office at 563-2554.
