Basketball Season Ends With Opening Round Losses
The Cannon County High School Basketball season finished Tuesday night in the second evening of the District 8-AA basketball tournament which took place at the Hooper Eblen Center on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville. The Cannon County Lionettes committed over 18 turnovers in their contest against Central Magnet. However the Lionettes were able to stay in the game until Maleah Scott fouled out with about three minutes to go. The Lionettes enjoyed a short lead in the fourth quarter but after Scott committed a offensive charge, the Tigerettes used a run to win the ball game 46-40. Maleah was the leading scorer for Cannon with 14. Taylor Meeks scored 12 in the loss. Cannon's record ended with 10 wins and 18 losses.
It was a low scoring boys game between Cannon and York Institute as York only led 24-14 at half. The lead didn't get any bigger than 12 before Cannon went on a run and trimmed it down to 2 but that was as close as they could get before falling to York 47-38. Brandon Miles finished strong in the fourth quarter with 11 total points. Trey Fann led all Lions in the loss with 16. Lions end their season 4-23.
