Mrs. Evelyn Haley Casey age 94 of McMinnville, TN died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Webb House.  She was born September 27, 1922, in Cannon County, TN, was the wife of the late Winfred Erle Casey and the daughter of the late Luther Vernon Haley and Lera Banks Haley. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Grady and Royce Haley. She married the late Winfred E. Casey, son of Jesse and Mary Neil Casey on October 27, 1944, and resided most of her married life in McMinnville, TN, attended elementary school at Ivy Bluff in Cannon County, TN, graduated from Woodbury High School, received a B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University, and worked toward her master’s at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN. She taught forty-five years in the public school system and was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Fellowship Class and Circle 1 of the Wesleyan Guild. Selected in 1970 as Woman of the Year for Warren County, voted outstanding Teacher of America in 1973, was inducted into the Who’s Who among American Teachers in 1998, served on the Educational Improvement Committee of Warren County, was a past member of the Strategic Planning for Warren County Schools, a graduate of Leadership McMinnville, past president of Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a former B. & P.W., former member of the University Women’s Club, and a member of the National, Tennessee, and Warren County Retired Teachers Association, and served on Community Council of First National Bank. Mrs. Casey spent twelve years familiarizing local Japanese women with Warren County and in 2005, was designated a Paul Harris Fellow (Light the Way Award) by the Breakfast Rotary Club, and later that year was inducted into the Tennessee Teachers Hall of Fame.
Survivors include her sister-in-law Normagine Haley of Woodbury, TN, niece Pat Archie (John) of Las Vegas, NV, nephews Richard (Peggy) Haley of Lewisburg, TN, Dwight (Karen) Haley of Lunar Pier, MI, Jim (Ginny) Haley of Kansas City, KS, Larry (Lisa) Haley of Lynchburg, VA, Tim Haley (Pam) of Smyrna, TN, brother-in-law Arland (Judy) Casey, sisters-in-law Sue Casey and Frankie Terry, several great and great-great nieces and nephews, and devoted friend and caretaker Heather George.
Funeral service is 2:00 PM Friday, April 14, 2017 at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Robert H. (Bob) Case and Rev. Tommy Vann will officiate. Members of the Fellowship Class at First United Methodist Church and local retired teachers are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Interment will follow at Ivy Bluff Cemetery in Cannon County, TN. The Casey Family will receive friends from 2 PM until 9 PM on Thursday and again Friday from 10 AM until the time of services at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.
