Rutherford County Man Faces Drug Charges In Cannon County

A night of drinking and driving has led to the arrest of a local man for driving under the influence and the discovery of a substantial amount of illegal drugs. Cannon County Sheriff’s Deputy Warren Walker was on patrol when he encountered the vehicle of Jonathan Jerald Childs, age 29 of Brooksdale Drive in Smyrna. Upon stopping and investigating the driver, Walker began to suspect that Childs was intoxicated. After allegedly confirming that, Walker placed Childs in arrest. A routine check of Childs’ person and vehicle yielded the discovery of over 30 grams of marijuana in three separate plastic bags. Walker arrested and charged Childs with driving under the influence and felonious possession of marijuana.

Childs is currently free on $8,000.00 bond and will appear before General Sessions Judge Susan Melton on August 12th.
