Jan 6 2009

The Auburntown City Council met Tuesday evening, January 6th, for their regular monthly meeting. Roger Turney, Mayor, and Councilmen Rita Davis, Beth Hancock, Joe Davenport and Winfred Gaither were present.

Winfred Gaither was appointed unanimously by the council to fill a vacant seat at the beginning of the meeting.

Rita Davis, Treasurer, gave the financial report which showed a balance of funds in the amount of $36,590.99.

Roy Sullivan, Cannon County 911 Director, met with the council with a proposal for installing a Security Camera System in Auburntown at strategic locations. The Council reviewed the proposal and accepted it at a cost of $2,749.42.

The Mayor reported that all is going well, and on schedule for the bid letting, to run utility water up Hurricane Creek Road. It is hopeful that the condition of the economy may permit a beneficial boost toward lower bids for the project. However, nothing will be known until the bids are in.

The Council approved Roger Turney, Mayor of Auburntown, to proclaim the week of January 25-31, 2009, as “School Board Appreciation Week” and to urge all citizens to join him in the worth observation.

The Council approved replacing the awning over the entrance to the Community Center at a cost of between two and three hundred dollars.

Bobby Fletcher, student at CCHS, monitored the session as a Civics class project.
