Homeowner Holds Door Till Police Arrive

Friday, 5 October, 2007

Some tense moments took place for a Woodbury homeowner after an intoxicated man allegedly tried to kick their front door down in the middle of the night. Sammy Allen Howell, age 31 of Smithville, was arrested by the Woodbury Police Department and charged with criminal attempt to commit aggravated burglary and public intoxication after he allegedly tried to break into the home through the front door. The homeowner told police that Howell first tried to turn the doorknob and then, when he couldn’t gain access that way, began kicking the door. The homeowner said that when Howell could not get in that way, he started throwing himself against the door. The homeowner had to actually place their body against the door in order to keep him out. Police quickly arrived and took Howell into custody. It is not known why he was trying to get into the house, because the homeowner told police that no one at there knew who Howell was.

Howell is currently free on $5,500.00 bond and will appear before General Sessions Judge Susan Melton on November 13th.
