Auburntown City Council Meets

The Auburntown City Council met Tuesday, November 6, 2007 for their regular monthly meeting. The Mayor and all councilmen were present except Christopher Blackburn.

The financial report was given by Rita Davis which showed a balance of funds in the amount of $44,499.18.

The Mayor reported that the City had engaged a Certified Municipal Financial Officer in compliance with the law passed by the last Tennessee Legislature.

The state has not reported on the City’s request for funds to run utility water up Hurricane Creek Road. Although, their report is overdue judging from the time frame they have maintained in the past. The results of this year’s request are expected to be forthcoming most any time.

A bid for replacing the flooring and under-pending beneath the ice machine in the community center was approved and the work should start shortly.

The Independent Auditors report for the past fiscal was handed out for review and comments at the next regular meeting, if any are forthcoming.

The Council approved the purchase of a “smokers bench” to be placed (outside the alcove) of the library. It seems that the present situation does not comply with the recently-passed law regarding smoking in and around public buildings. Management of public buildings generally is finding that they have to deal with specific problems as each situation is brought to their attention.
