Card And Checkbooks Stolen

With the Christmas season upon us, so comes the possibility of increase of thefts in the area.  Two Cannon County residents recently had their checkbook or debit cards stolen. According to Cannon County Sheriff’s Department reports April Hall Barnes came into the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department to file a report for a stolen debit card.  Mrs. Barnes stated that her bank called her the morning of and stated that some activity came back on her debit card the previous day showing that money had been withdrawn out of her account from an ATM in Nashville.  Mrs. Barnes stated that she had been home the day and time that the money had been withdrawn.  The bank advised Mrs. Barnes she needed to file a police report so that they could pull the camera footage from the ATM and find out how this activity occured.
Britta Cantrell came to the Sheriff’s Depatment to report a stolen checkbook and an unauthroized check.  Ms Cantrell stated that a checkbook was stolen from one of her vehicles while she was in the hospital and a check was written for close to $3000.  She stated that she did not write that check and had noticed it after it was taken out of her account.  Ms. Cantrell said that she had not been checking her account due to her being in the hospital.  She stated that the checkbook had been kept in a spare vehicle and they noticed that the checkbook was missing after the check had been cleared.  Investigation is continuing.
