December Meeting Of Cannon County Board of Education

Friday 14 December 2007A variety of topics filled the December meeting of the Cannon County school board. The board’s meetings are rotating among the schools in the system. Thursday’s meeting was held at Cannon County High School. An end may be nearing with a dispute over construction at Woodland School. The board voted to proceed with offered amount of $22 171.48 to settle a lawsuit with Lewis County Masonry. The board gave their approval for Dr. Diden to join the adjunct faculty Department of Educational Leadership at Middle Tennessee State University. The assignment involves teaching a Masters level course during the next semester and will not interfere with his duties as director. The board recognized Beta Club members and presented certificates. Many of the clubs have excelled in recent competition. · Auburn School took first place for campaign skit. · Short Mountain place first in the battle of the books. · Cannon County HOSA (Health Occupational Services of America) first place for state display. · Cannon County FFA (Future Farmers of America) places first for sales team and moves into finals · Cannon County FFA forestry conclave placed first. The 2008-2009 school calendar was reviewed and approved. The first full day of school for next year will be August 8th. Topics dealing with funding for the science department at the high school lights for the baseball field or improvements to the softball field were tabled until a workshop in January.
