Fire Destroys Chair Shop In County

A chair shop was destroyed in a fire Monday morning at 1380 Lonnie Smith Road. The building was located at the home of Wilma Thomas.The homeowners son stated to fire fighters, “a man who works in the shop had built a fire in the stove. He then started working at one of the bench’s when he felt it getting hotter and when he turned around to look the ceiling was on fire.” When firefighters arrived on the scene the fire was already through the roof.
Firefighters were able to protect the nearby structures and extinguished the flames. The structure was a total loss and contained equipment that was over 50 years old.
The Mooretown Fire Department was dispatched at 7:58am, on the scene at 8:14am and back in-service at 10:00am. Mooretown responded with 2 trucks and used 3,800 gallons of water. They were assisted by Woodbury Fire Dept. (manpower and 1,000 gallons of water), Eastside Fire Dept.(manpower and 1,000 gallons of water), Cannon County Sheriff’s Departament, Middle Tennessee Electric and Cannon County Emergency-911 Dispatch all assisted.
