Cannon County’s library could receive assistance from the state. A grant could generate as much as 10 percent of the total construction costs of an expansion project at the Adams Memorial Library. State and local officials attended a noon meeting Tuesday to reviews options available for the Adams library from the office of the Secretary of State in Nashville. Tennessee’s Secretary of State Riley Darnell and Gerald Reed assistant for public policy came to Woodbury at the invitation of Representative Stratton Bone. Plans for an expansion of the Adams Memorial Library have been underway for some time. Cannon County Executive Mike Gannon also attended the meeting. The county needs to address storage and management options for its archives. The proposed addition of the library could serve that need as well as other community needs. Cannon County’s arrangement is a little different than many communities where the library is owned by the county. In Cannon County the Adams Library is owned and maintained by the Dr. and Mrs. J.F. Adams Memorial Library Association. A more detailed study of the arrangement will be required to see if the state can assist with the project. All interested parties involved with the library were represented at the meeting. Austin Jennings chairman of the association Angie Ott chairman of the Cannon County Library Board Charlie Harrell chairman of the Friends of Adams Memorial Library and Stephanie Fuson director of the library were all in attendance. Grants from the Secretary of State’s office are based on federal funding and are unaffected by the reductions to the state budget.
