Lions and Lionettes Lost to Macon. Middle Grades Basketball Tonight

The Cannon County Lions basketball team didn’t start their series of consecutive district contests anywhere near the way they wanted to Tuesday night.  Team traveled to Lafayette to meet co-District 8AA leader Macon County.  The Tigers dismantled the Lions mid way through the first quarter and kept their unblemished mark in District 8-AA perfect beating the Lions 87-48.  It was the Lions worst loss of the season.  Macon will play the other co-leader in the district Upperman in Baxter Friday night.  Cannon’s record slips to 3-14 and 0-5 in the district standings.  Austin Duggin was the leading Cannon point getter with 12 points. The Macon County Tigerettes are considered the most improved team in the District.  After just winning 10 games in a battered season last year, the Tigerettes are in second place in the standings and just six wins away from a 20 win season.  Tuesday night in Lafayette, the Cannon County Lionettes looked poise to grab a tough road win when they took a 41-38 lead into the final period.  Turnovers and transition turned the momentum around for Macon in the fourth as the Tigerettes won 59-53.  Maleah Scott and Taylor Meeks each had 15 in the loss .  Cannon falls to 7-11 on the year and 1-4 in District 8-AA play
