Out of County Students Must Pay Tuition

Students attending Cannon County Schools while not necessarily living in the county was discussed at the November meeting of the Cannon County Board of Education. It was recently brought to the attention of school officials that a student at Short Mountain School was not a resident of the county. Tuition for out of county students is $800.00 a year.

The board indicated by their action that any out-of-county students will be required to pay tuition. Board Chairman Gannon asked that any students who are out of county students and parents do not choose to pay tuition, can change back to a school in the county of their residence during Christmas break.

Director of Schools Barbara Parker reported that Short Mountain had 4 out of county students; Woodbury had 2 students outside the county while Auburntown had 5. Westside had 2 that were on the list and as of Monday, 5 more students were found to be living outside of Cannon County.

Connie Foster presented the annual review of the Disaster Response plan during the workshop meeting of the school board Tuesday. Those changes include items like;

Counseling Services Toll Free number was added to the directory.
Utility shutoffs and video surveillance equipment will be added
to the maps in the emergency kits.
Secretaries and receptionists will be included on the list of names
and home telephone numbers in addition of all administrative personnel
and custodians.

Cell phones should not be used during a bomb threat as it could possibly trigger a potential bomb Lisa Black put together the procedures of the Bus Accident Response Team. Ms. Black worked on designating certain responsibilities to each member of the team. The plan also called for bus drivers to leave a list of riders at the school before going on field trips in case of a bus accident. A School Bus Evacuation plan was formed as well.
