It’s not quite yet time for the first high school basketball poll of the season, but if it were one might find the Upperman Bees and Lady Bees basketball teams near the top of the AA division. Friday night the Cannon County ball teams traveled to Baxter to play one of the top teams in the state in both teams District 8-AA openers. Neither game was close. In the girls game the Lady Bees got out to a 29-6 end of first quarter lead as Cannon struggled against the Lady Bees full court press losing 77-30. Madison Gaither led the Lionettes with 12 points in the game. Lionettes fall to 2-4.
The Upperman Bees opened the boys game attacking and playing more aggressive than the Lions en route to a 28-7 end of first quarter lead. The Bees continued to build leading by 31 at half then coasting to a 78-43 win over Cannon. Trey Fann scored 11 to lead the way for the Lions who fall to 1-5 overall.
