Voters Say “Yes” To Hunting, Fishing and Making Liquor

Election Day in Cannon County will bring some changes for residents. A total of 3,975 persons voted in the general election, 2,588 of those voted on election day. Cannon County residents will have a new representative in congress and a new representative in the general assembly. Voters also said “yes” to hunting, fishing and making liquor.In the governor’s race, Bill Haslam won over Mike McWherter, 2,412 to 1,415.
On the constitutional amendment for the right to hunt and fish, yes 3,137 no 231.
In the race for representative in the US House, Diane Black defeated Brett Carter, 2,369 to 1,197. Black will become the first women to serve in the office for the 6th District.
On the state level, Mae Beavers won re-election to the State Senate winning over George McDonald, 2,206 – 1,544. In the closest race on the ballot, Mark Pody defeated incumbent Stratton Bone for Representative in the 46th District, 1,909 – 1,838.
In a local referendum, voters approved to permit the manufacture of liquor in the county by a vote of 1,962 – 1,663.
