Woodbury Town Council Hold December Meeting

Two city ordinances were passed in regard to street acceptance and first reading on revisions to the beer ordnance were part of the agenda at last night at the Town of Woodbury Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting at City Hall in Woodbury.Ordinance Number 434 which is an ordinance amending the street acceptance and construction standard code for the Town of Woodbury by adding a section 16-407 which is the procedure for street acceptance by the Public Works Director. The first reading was passed in the November meeting.
Faye Knox made the motion, Joann Davis seconded the motion and the ordinance passed on the second and final reading
Ordinance Number 435 which was a companion to 434 was also passed on second and final reading. Faye Knox made the motion and Lois Larimer seconded the motion
The Aldermen looked into considering the adoption of Ordinance number 436 on first reading. This was an ordinance amending Ordinance Number 421 regulating the sale, distribution for sale and manufacturing of beer within the Town of Woodbury. The amendment was on Section 8-210 which was to allow restaurants located on the public square to sell beer. Faye Knox made the motion, Joann Davenport seconded the motion. The motion passed with Aldermen Dottie Duggin passing on voting. There will be a second and final reading at the January meeting.
The Aldermen looked into considering the adoption of Ordinance number 437 on first reading. This was an ordinance to amend Ordinance number 421 to allow stores to sell beer on election days. Dan Bowling who was in attendance advised the commission to check on state law concerning the sale of beer on election day as he was under the impression that it wasn’t a local law but a state law that prohibited the sale of beer during Election Day. Upon further investigation in talking with two high volume beer stores in Murfreesboro, liquor cannot be sold on election days, beer however can. Faye Knox made the motion to pass the ordinance, Lois Larimer seconded the motion and the motion passed with Aldermen Dottie Duggin passing on voting. There will be a second and final reading at the January meeting.
Carolyn Motley of the Cannon County Chamber Of Commerce addressed the Mayor and Board. She reported that the Car Show fundraiser raised enough money to keep the Chamber doors open for the rest of the year. The fiscal year ends in December. Ms Motley also went on to say that there were some new businesses that joined the Chamber recently. Alderman Shade Cason made the motion to donate $500 to the Chamber. Faye Knox seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Mayor Harold Patrick gave a report about some recent developments in Woodbury. There will be a furniture store opening on the square in Woodbury soon. Hometown Flowers has taken over the old McFerrin Printing location
Woodbury Fire Chief Bill Johnston updated the Board that there is a fire truck in the shop for brake repair. Should be back this week.
Dan Bowling reported to the commission that his business MedSource is opening a location to sell medical equipment in the building beside NAPA auto parts. They hope to be open by sometime next week.
Mayor Harold Patrick, Aldermen Charlie Harrell, Faye Knox, Lois Larimer, Dottie Duggin, Shade Cason, and Joann Davis were all present at the meeting.
