Basketball Teams Lose First Contest Of 2017

2017 did not start positively for the Cannon County Lions and Lionettes basketball teams.  Tuesday night in McMinnville, the Lady Pioneers and Pioneers swept the season series picking up wins in both teams opening contests of the new year.  In the girls game, both teams started off slow in a low scoring first quarter as Warren grabbed a one point lead at the end 9-8.  Lionettes stayed in the contest until the third quarter as Warren County’s Elsa Eckenrod scored 6 of her 9 points to open a 11 point lead.  Warren would win the game 47-30.  Taylor Meeks scored 9 points in the loss to lead the Lionettes in scoring.   The Cannon County Lions came out aggressive in the hopes of not repeating the last time they saw the Pioneers which was in the consolation game of the Sonic Shootout in Sparta where they lost 66-39.  Warren County hit several three pointers in the second period to open up a 7 point lead and won 54-42,  Cannon’s record now falls to 3-13 on the year.  Next up for the Lions and Lionettes basketball teams will be a on the road game to Lafayette to meet District 8-AA opponent Macon County.  Game time will be at 6:00 Tuesday January 10th
