Cannon County Home of Tennessee’s New American Legion

For the first time since 1965, Cannon County now has a chapter of the American Legion Post. The 5th district of the Legion Post held a district meeting Monday night, January 11th at the Cannon County Senior Citizens Center to present the charter to the new Cannon County Post Chapter 279. Local resident Danny Bowling organized the event and helped secure the local chapter. 5th District Commander Ronald Inyart, also a Cannon County resident led the meeting.Over 50 people were in attendance for the initial meeting in which the local chapter learned about various organizations such as the Legion Riders, American Legion Baseball organization, and Sons of Veterans in which post members can become involved.
Local officers and commanders of the local chapter will be determined at a later date. Around 10% of Cannon County’s population is comprised of veterans and the purpose of the post is not only to serve veterans but to also serve the community. There are 10 districts of the post in the State of Tennessee.
