Woodland Students Help Victims Of Japan’s Earthquakes
We have all seen photos and video of the recent destruction experienced in Japan. The damage done by the recent earthquake and resulting tsunami was devastating. The photos of the children whose lives have been torn apart are especially touching. Our children at Woodland will be helping to provide assistance to those affected by this act of nature by working with a well-known children’s clothing store to provide clothing and paper cranes. After seeing an advertisement by Oshkosh B’Gosh offering to send one article of clothing to the children of Japan for every origami crane sent in, the sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at Woodland joined the push to send one thousand paper cranes. Working in cooperation with art Teacher Darlene Wetzel, our students are well on their way to achieving this goal. You will find cranes all over our art room as we prepare to send them off to eventually reach Japan.
In the Japanese Culture, cranes are a powerful symbol of health and well-wishes. In fact, the Japanese people believe that anyone who makes one thousand origami cranes will have a wish granted. We hope that the cranes we send, along with our wishes of healing for the people of Japan, will help to make a difference.
AGI Certification Requirements
Cannon County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Donny Green, reminds producers that, in order to receive USDA program payments, each payment recipient must have an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) verification consent form on file with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).The consent form authorizes IRS to verify for FSA whether a payment recipient’s AGI meets the eligibility requirements for FSA programs. The form became a requirement for payment eligibility beginning with the 2009 crop year, however many program participants have not complied with this requirement.
“IRS and USDA reports show that, nationwide, FSA is still missing the required consent forms from many producers for 2009 and 2010,” said Green. “In order to avoid an interruption of program payments, producers need to check their business records and turn these forms in to the IRS immediately if they have not done so already,” he said.
IRS requires written consent from all individuals or legal entities before verification of the average AGI can be provided to USDA. Individuals must submit form CCC-927and legal entities must submit form CCC-928. Without these forms on file, producers will not receive USDA program payments.
Green further clarifies that these consent forms are required for payments received from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as well as those received through FSA. Completed forms must be returned to the IRS.
For more information on AGI eligibility requirements or the AGI verification process, contact the Cannon County FSA office at (615) 563-4321.

Steinbeck tells of traveling throughout the United States starting in Long Island New York and roughly following the outer border of the United States, from Maine to the Pacific Northwest, down into his native Salinas Valley in California, across to Texas up through the deep south and then back to New York which is a trip encompassing nearly 10,000 miles. During the Month of June the Cannon County Adult Book club will be reading through the book Travels with Charley. Book club starts tonight at 6:30 at the Adams Memorial Library.
