Governor Haslam Proclaims POW/MIA Recognition Week
Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and state Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Many-Bears Grinder announced September 21-27, 2012 as POW/MIA Recognition Week.In 1990, the 101st Congress passed legislation to recognize the National League of Families’ POW/MIA flag. Since 2011, the week beginning the third Friday of September and extending through the following Thursday of each year shall be designated as “Tennessee POW-MIA Recognition Week” to remember and pay tribute to service members captured by the enemy and those still missing in action.
“Hearing the stories of former Prisoners of War is an unforgettable experience and offering our recognition as a state is a powerful way to salute their bravery and perseverance,” Grinder said. “We continue to remember those still missing in action and their families while they wait for closure and answers.”
More than 83,000 Americans and more than 200 Tennesseans are still missing or unaccounted for since World War II.
Commissioner Grinder presented Governor Haslam’s POW/MIA Recognition Week Proclamation to Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Director Juan Morales during an Ex-POW/MIA ceremony on September 14, 2012.

Lions Fumble Their Way Through Loss To Cascade
By the time the Cannon County Lions football team ran their first offensive play from the line of scrimmage, the game was already over. The Cascade Champions scored on the first offensive possession, then recovered two Cannon County fumbles in a row and scored on both as a result and before halfway into the first quarter Cascade would post a 20-0 on the Lions. A Blocked punt set up another Champion touchdown and a touchdown as a result of yet another Cannon County fumble on the ensuing kickoff rounded out the scoring for Cascade. With the clock running in the third quarter due to the mercy rule, the Lions kept from getting shut out as time expired to end the third quarter as Hawk Love ran 58 yards for a touchdown and the final score ended up 41-7. Offensively minus the turnovers and fundamental mistakes, the Lions and Champions rushing numbers were close to each other. Cannon County will now travel Friday to face Livingston who is sitting atop the district standings with Dekalb County.

Library Changes Dates For Temporary Closing Due To Renovations
IMPORTANT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The closure of Adams Memorial Library previously planned for September 27th through October 3rd will now occur on October 4th through October 10th. Equipment needed to make us all comfortable and safe in the remodeled meeting room has been delayed in arriving. We are sorry if this causes any inconvenience for you. Items previously due October 4th through October 10th will now be due on October 11th.
We will still be offering the same minimal services that we described before. Faxing, some public use computers with Internet access, DVDs, audiobooks, new materials, and photocopy services will still be available. The library will remain in these temporary quarters until the remodeling and building on the main level is completed.
Thank you to everyone who has brought us boxes and packing materials and to those who have helped in moving the collections into storage. Remember that Auburntown Branch Library is open regular hours (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 9 a.m. to noon) and that they have a beautiful collection of library materials, some of which are not held at the Adams Memorial Library. We will also be glad to request that materials in that collection be transported to Woodbury for you to check out.
The building is taking shape and we have chosen paint, tile and carpet colors. Dreams are coming true!
