Lorene Parker

Mrs. Lorene Parker, 99, a native of Cannon County and resident for the past several years of San Diego, California passed away on July 15, 2019 just a few months shy of reaching 100.  She was born on November 30, 1919.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William Fred Parker and Mary Jane Starr Parker; husband, Beecher Parker; sons, Nicky Parker and Ranny Parker; daughter, Myrna Joyce Parker; brothers, Lonnie Parker, Elvin Parker, Clark Parker; and a sister, Christine Sabia.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joyce Parker; grandsons, Allen (Stephanie) Parker and Jeffery Parker; great grandson, A. J. (Brook) Parker; great great grandson, Easton Parker; special nieces and nephew, Pamela Parker and Jim (Renea) Sabia; Connie (Wayne) Parker Phillips; and many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lorene was an outgoing and energetic person.  She kept a smile on her face and loved to be around people.  She worked as a beautician for many years with different shops in and around Woodbury.  She lived in Cannon County for about 90 of her almost 100 years of life.  When she wasn’t working, she, Mr. Beecher, and other family members enjoyed playing music, going dancing, and listening to other live music.  She kept active well into her nineties, until dementia began to affect her mind.  She was a longtime member of the Midway Church of Christ.

Johnny E. Lyons

Mr. Johnny E. Lyons was born March 29, 1948 to the late Nora Lyons, of Woodbury, TN and transitioned from this life on August 14, 2019 with family at his side.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Lyons and sister, Mary Katherine Lyons.

He was employed at the Shirt Factory in Woodbury, TN as a truck driver for many years.  Up to his time of retirement, Johnny had worked at Richs Products, Murfreesboro, TN for over 30 years.

Prior to his illness, he served as a faithful and committed deacon at the Full Gospel Assembly Church.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted and loving wife, Peggy Lyons of 46 years, from that union they were blessed with 2 children; Sonia and Johnny Lyons, Jr. and 6 grandchildren; sisters, Pauline Clark and Diane Lyons; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and devoted uncle James Batey.

Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 11-2 pm.  Funeral services will follow in the Smith Funeral Home chapel at 2 pm.  Interment will be in Hoover Cemetery.

Brenda Joyce Farless Williams

Brenda Joyce Farless Williams, 70, of Woodbury passed away Sun., August 11, 2019 at Concordia Nursing Home, Carthage, TN.  A native of Cannon Co., she was the daughter of the late Luther and Evelyn Hensley Farless.

She is survived by her sons, Scottie Underwood of OH. and Jeff Underwood of Woodbury; grandchildren, Cameron (Keelea) Adams, Karina Adams and Calia Adams; great grandchildren, Cruz Adams, Kenden Koler and Weston Koler; siblings, William Farless of Auburntown, Lois (Jim) Davis of Pleasant Shade and Susan (Jerry) Parker of Shelbyville.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Rusty Underwood and siblings, Linda Gunter, Paula Byrd and Gary Farless.
Brenda was retired and worked most of her life as a waitress.  She was a member of the Centerhill Baptist Church and was baptized in June 1963 at Dillon St. Baptist Church when she was 13 years old.  Brenda loved her family and her church family. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning and listening to gospel music.
Funeral Services will be 1 pm Wednesday, August 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Mitchell and Bro. Rannie Phillips officiating.  Interment will follow in the Prater Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 1 pm until 8 pm Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019. Jo Ann Shelton

Jo Ann Shelton, 77 died Friday, August 9th at Centennial Medical Center. She was a native of Opp, Alabama.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Joe L. Shelton of Murfreesboro, children:  Penny Forstel of Murfreesboro and Paul Hollandsworth of Artesia, NM, Grandchildren:  Tracee Lowe, Jason LaFever, Jeremy Parker, Chris Forstel, Chelsea Forstel, Miranda Rains, Clay Hollandsworth, Austin, Dakota, and Brittni Hollandsworth, Sisters: Ann Hilliard of Kinston, Alabama; Juanita Precott of Maynardville, TN; Wanda Taylor, Linda Bailey, and Iris Darby all of Florida

Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her parents Gaston Suggs and Gladys Culpepper Suggs;and two children, Rhonda Rains Wright and Randy Rains.

She was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Smyrna.  Mrs. Shelton was also the owner and operator of Jo Ann’s Village Greenhouse. Jo Ann was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. She loved Jesus, all the kids, and was a mom to everyone she met. She enjoyed painting, a good nice firm bed, good shoes, and good food.

Frances Marie DeMass

Frances Marie Brown DeMass, 64, of Woodbury passed away Tuesday, August 06, 2019 at her home.  She was born in Hammond, IN., to her parents, the late Cecil Brown, Jr. and Ernestine Ferrell Brown. 

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Jim DeMass of Woodbury; daughters, Jennifer Delamora Milligan and her husband, Anthony of Woodbury, Angie Lowery of LaFayette, Gidget Montague, Holly DeMass and Amanda DeMass all of IN.; grandchildren,  BJ, Kristy, Brittney, Shayla, Kaitlyn and Dakota; great grandchildren, Chloe, Gracie, Joseph, William and Isabella; sisters, Brenda Bogle of Murfreesboro and Deborah Ernestine Fanning.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Scott.
Marie was a member of the church of Christ, was a nurse’s aide in IN and worked in housekeeping at Woodbury Health and Rehab.  She was a caring person, a loving wife and mother.  It would make her day to go to auctions and she absolutely loved going to the Watertown yard sale because she was always looking for a deal.

Hazel Davenport Vinson

Hazel Davenport Vinson, 89, of Woodbury, passed away at her daughter’s home Saturday, August 3, 2019.  She was born in Cannon Co.

She is survived by her children; Marlene, Teresa and Joe Vinson all of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Ashleigh Moses, Dustin and Bridget Snell, Molli Kate, Bryant, Seth and Leah Beth Vinson; great grandchildren; Tyler and Ava Moses; Stacie Bryson, Lane Francis, Cullen Bryson, Michael and Trina Koltay

Ms. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harold Vinson; parents, Percy and Martha Peeler Davenport; daughter, Donna Marie Snell; sisters, Clara Bell Ludlow, Margie DeBerry, Peggy Barnet, Clarice Smith, Denna Campbell and brothers, Clyde, Hagen, Fred and Lemon Davenport.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Woodbury.  She was a nurse and homemaker.  Ms. Hazel enjoyed gardening, her peacocks but most of all she enjoyed and loved her family.

Graveside Services will be 5 pm Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Riverside Cemetery with Bro. Dean Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm Sunday, August 4, 2019. Dr. Russell Edwin Myers

Dr. Russell Edwin Myers of Woodbury passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Alvin C. York Medical Center; just 24 days shy of his 102nd birthday.  He was 101.  He was born in Madison, TN to his parents, Richard Myers and Emma Garrett Myers.

 He is survived by his daughter, Linda Myers Sanchez and her husband, Louis of Woodbury; three grandchildren, Charles (Chuck) William Smart II of Murfreesboro, Amy Smart Iglesias and her husband, Aly of Atlanta, and Russell Sanchez and his wife, Amber Bright of Auburntown: six great grandchildren, Charles (Chas) William Smart III, Lauren Iglesias, Matao Iglesias, Lindie Sanchez, Landon Sanchez, and Sophia Sanchez ; sister, Christine Ruschmeyer of Miami and dear friend, Pat Rosenthal of Louisville, KY,

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Edwin Myers.

Dr.  Myers was a graduate of Madison College and graduated medical school from Loma Linda University.  After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served two years in the Medical Corp. on Guam.  During his college years, he met and became friends with Dr. William Bryant.  They came to Woodbury and started Good Samaritan Hospital where they also had their medical practice from 1950 until 1986.  Dr. Myers was a devoted member of the 7th Day Adventist Church in Woodbury that he and Dr. Bryant built.  He cared about his community and well as the patients who entrusted him with their care.  After the Good Samaritan Hospital closed, Dr. Myers and Dr. Bryant funded the Bryant-Myers Scholarship that has helped numerous children attend college over the years.  During his life, he enjoyed fishing with Harold Smith, working on his farm, and owning and participating in Tennessee Walking Horses.

Phyllis Mae Willis

Phyllis Mae Willis, 75, of Readyville passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Woodbury Health and Rehab.  She was born in Coffee Co., the daughter of the late Bernie and Clatie Stacey Hill. 

She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Melvin Willis, children, Lisa Davis and her husband, Jeff of Woodbury; Terry Willis and his wife, Lynn of Readyville; grandchildren, Steven Davis, Zachary Davis and his wife, Amanda), Kelly Frazee and her husband, Ian and Lane Willis; great grandchildren, Hunter, Montana & Zaden Davis and John Blake Frazee; siblings, Robbie Frame and her husband, Billy of Beech Grove, James Hill of Smithville, Billy Hill of Manchester, Bobby Hill and his wife, Bonnie of Christiana, Diane Green and her husband, Donnie of Christiana and Jeff Hill of Woodbury and sister-in-law, Betty Hill of Murfreesboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wendell Hill.
Mrs. Willis was a member of the Grace Assembly Church of God and was a homemaker.  She enjoyed family vacations, loved cooking, gardening and canning but most of all, she loved her family and that’s what meant the most to her.

Nancy Marie Coomes

Nancy Marie Coomes

Nancy Marie Coomes, 68, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at her home in Cannon Co.  She was born in Kaiser, WV to her parents, John Carr Getty and Elsie Wilzbacher Getty.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dr. Bernard Coomes of Sht. Mtn., TN.; her children, Jonathan Coomes of Simi Valley, CA., Malani Coomes of Nashville, Rachel Coomes of Los Angeles, Bridgit Coomes Morris of Nashville, Damian Coomes of Memphis;  her siblings, Carr Getty and Ricky Getty both of Evansville, IN., Mary Getty (Jim Kikuchi) of Chicago, IL. and Bill Getty of NH. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Getty.
Nancy was a teacher and massage therapist with Coomes Chiropractic. She had a close bond with her book club and her study group friends.  She had been a member of the Unity Church and tirelessly strived for spiritual growth often studying information from Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. among other sources, that teach love for one another.

Aubrey Barlow, Jr.

Aubrey Barlow, Jr., of Woodbury, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at Woodbury Health and Rehab.  He was a native of Rutherford Co. and the son of the late Aubrey Lee Barlow, Sr. and Beatrice Perry Brandon.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dale and Bobby Barlow.

He is survived by his caring friends, Josh and Jill Stansbury of Woodbury; his children, Angela Gail Barlow of IN. and Aubrey Scott Barlow of Woodbury and siblings, Shery Sanders, Wanda Sanders and David Barlow.  He is also survived by his Sycamore Creek family.

Aubrey was a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church and was a caretaker and farmer.  

Services will begin at 11:45 am Sunday, August 4, 2019 following church services at his church, Sycamore Baptist with Bro. Richard Williams officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gideon Bibles %Sycamore Baptist.
