Guy Dotson Sr.

Guy Roosevelt Dotson, 76, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee died January 16, 2018.  He was born February 27, 1941 in Elora, Tennessee.  He was the son of the late Hamp and Elsie Mae Russell Dotson.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean Pardue Dotson and a sister, Grace Dotson Gattis. Guy is survived by his four sons, Guy Jr. (Nicole), Greg, Von (Jana), and Ben (Jenny) and one daughter, Bethe (Frank) Becker all of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Samantha Dotson, Trey (Angelica) Dotson, Brent Dotson, Hank Becker, Emily Becker, Kyle Dotson, Grace Dotson, and Cecilia Jean “CJ” Dotson, Holly Newsom, Darby (Josh) Culbertson, Leya Victory, Brendan Dye, Collin Dye, and Evan Dye.  In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Buck (JoAnn) Dotson and Sammy Dotson both of Winchester, Tennessee, and two sisters, Roxie (Jack) Rainaldi, Anaheim, California and Nancy Cash, Acworth, Georgia and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Guy graduated from Franklin County High School.  He earned his undergraduate from the University of the South at Sewanee before earning his law degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  He served in the United States Marine Corp and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  He was appointed District Attorney General for the 16th Judicial District (Rutherford and Cannon counties) in 1969 and served in that position until his retirement in 1995.  He was very well respected by all who knew him and was always ready to share his wisdom and dry wit.  He always had time for young attorneys who often sought his advice and guidance.  He made a huge impact on all that knew him.
Guy was an avid golfer, pool player, and loved basketball.  He loved to travel and has been all over the world.  His true treasures in life were his family.
Pallbearers with be Billy Duke, Randy Galloway, John Jones, Chuck Lewis, Gerald Melton, and Bill Whitesell.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gene Wise officiating.   Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will also be at Woodfin Chapel, Monday, January 22, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Charity Circle of Murfreesboro or the Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford County.

Melinda Barrett

Melinda Carol Barrett, 51, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at Skyline Hospital.  She was a native of Cannon Co. 
She is survived by her daughter, Paige (Dylan) Light of Auburntown; Stepdaughters, Debra Pritchard and Shelia Collett both of Woodbury; Grandchildren,  Kaydence & Kinsley Light, Vanessa Farris, Brady Byrge, Dillon & Bella Collett; Brothers,  Jeff & Mark Thomas and Lee Markum. Several Aunts & Uncles also survive.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Toby Thomas & Linda Lois Mooneyham Brown.
 
A memorial visitation with the family will be from 4 pm till 6 pm Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at Woodbury Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woodbury Funeral Home to help the family with funeral expenses.

Karen Curlee

Karen Lynn Curlee, 54, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 at her home following a sudden illness.  A native of Rutherford Co., she lived in Manchester.  
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Clyde Curlee of Manchester; her children, Cassie Curlee (Drew Reed) of Bradyville and Donald Curlee (Danielle Roney) of Manchester; grandchildren, Brady & Cynthia Davenport, Noah Curlee and Ashlan Reed and her brother, Phillip (Patti) Shook of Woodbury.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Shook and Charlotte Lovvorn Jones and her sister, Lisa Shook.
 
Karen was a CNA and a member of the Living Springs Church.  She loved her family but her grandchildren were what mattered most.

Stephen Cook

Mr. Stephen Cook, 37, of Woodbury passed away on January 14, 2018 with his family at his side.  He was born on May 12, 1980 in Woodbury, TN.  He was preceded in death by his father, P. J. “Rooster” Cook. He is survived by his mother, Mary Jean Howell Cook of Woodbury; a sister, Abby Frazor of Woodbury; nieces, McKenna Powell and Meredith Frazor; nephew, Aidan Frazor; also by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close family friends.
Stephen had a child like spirit and loved people.  Wherever he was he had a hug and smile for you.  Over the years he and his family traveled together visiting all 50 states.  He especially enjoyed their trip to Hawaii and learning to hula dance.  His dad was an avid coon hunter and raised coon hounds, many of them were champions.  Stephen went with his father to numerous events for coon hunting competitions.  Stephen was chosen to receive the Carl Perkins Sportsman of the Year with the American Coon Hunting Association. 
Stephen was a sports junkie, he loved University of Tennessee sports, especially the Lady Vols, MTSU women’s basketball teams, UT Vols football, and the Titans.  He had season tickets to MTSU to see their games for many years and made numerous trips to Knoxville to see the Vols.  He was probably their most dedicated fan and almost every year he got autographed items from the Lady Vols.   
Stephen loved his family, especially, his nieces and nephew.  They loved him too.  They spent almost every day together.  He got a special kick out of seeing his niece, McKenna, playing basketball at Boyd Christian School.  He loved going with them to the Challenge Youth Conference in Gatlinburg over the last couple of years, too.  All of the family and close friends knew he loved to drink Coca Cola.  He was an unofficial “taste tester” for Coke.   They made a point to bring him special care packages for Christmas and his birthday with his favorite drink and snacks.

Loretta Warren

Loretta M. Warren, 86, Thurs., Jan. 11, 2018 at Woodbury Health and Rehab.  She was a native of Warren Co. 
Survivors include her niece and nephew, Lonnie Warren and Clara Johnson both of McMinnville.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Warren & Clara Newby Warren; Sisters, Gertrude Newby and Glenda Smith and her brother, Paul Warren.
 
Loretta was a resident of Woodbury Health and Rehab since 1991.  Her caregivers became her family and loved her dearly.  She loved to chew gum, dip snuff and always carried her “pocketbook” with her. 
 
Funeral Services will be 3 pm Sunday, January 14, 2018 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Herb Alsup officiating.  Interment will following the Blues Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1 pm until 3 pm Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018.

Robert Goundry

Robert Hiram Goundry, 87, passed away Wed., Jan. 10, 2018 at St. Thomas Rutherford. He was a native of Bath, NY. 
He is survived by his wife of 56 years,  Carol R. Fuller Goundry of Short Mtn. Community; children, Rosanna (Donald) Stanton of Rock Hill, S.C., Rickey (Cecilia) Goundry of Philippines, Perry (Lynda) Smith of Huntsville, AL., and Todd Goundry of Estill Springs; Sisters, Joann Elliott and Donna Cramer both of Batavia, NY.; Several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren also survive.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Goundrey and Gladys Patterson.  Mr. Goundrey was a member of the Short Mtn. Methodist Church at Half Acre.  He was retired from NY State Police and was a custodian at Short Mtn. School for 25 years. 
 
Memorial Services will be 2 pm Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 at Short Mtn. Methodist Church at Halfacre with Bro. Vincent Baker.  Interment will follow in the Melton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Short Mtn. Methodist Church at Halfacre.

Vernie Smithson

Vernie Mae Gray Smithson, 84, passed away Mon., January 08, 2018 at Three Rivers Hospital.  She was a native of Coffee Co. and resided in Bradyville, Tn. 
She is survived by her children, Roger (Mary Ann) Gray of Waverly, Jackie (Ricky) Burger, Tracy (Steven) Hale, and Daniel (Leslie) Smithson all of Woodbury; 8 Grandchildren, Christopher (Sonya) Gray, Kayla (Michael) Chapman, Brooke (Tyler) Young, Bailey & Dalton Hale, Shelby, Brett and Bryce Smithson; 3 Great Grandchildren, Kaylee & Kelsey Gray, Kensley Young; Brother, Ronny (Carol) Gray of Manchester; Sister-in-law, Anita Gray of Manchester.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernie & Lula Ferrell Gray; her husband, Donnie Smithson and her Brother, Johnny Gray.
 
Ms. Smithson was a member of the Woodbury Church of Christ and was retired from Lewis Bakeries. She loved to cook and garden but most of all loved to be with her grandchildren. 
 
Funeral Services will be 1 pm Thursday, January 11, 2018 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Herb Alsup officiating.  Interment will follow in Midway Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 3 pm to 8 pm Wednesday, January 10, 2018 and Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 11 am until time of service. Zebulon David

Mr. Zebulon F. “Zeb” David, 84, of Knoxville passed away on January 6, 2018.  He was born in Woodbury, TN on October 15, 1933.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Prater “H.P.” David, Sr. and Minnie Brevard David; also by brother, H. P. David, Jr., and sister, Evelyn Brevard Jones.He is survived by sister, Frances Hashbarger of Knoxville; nieces, Jackie Logan of Knoxville and Gail Ross of St. Louis, MO; nephew, David (Carolyn) Jones of Charleston, SC; and close family friend, Carl West of Knoxville.
Graduate of Lake City High School, Lake City, TN where he played football.
Joined the U. S. Navy and served in the Korean War.  Following his Military service, he became a licensed contractor and established D & L Construction and built apartments and duplexes, which he managed and maintained in Lake City and Knoxville, TN.
Member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church and the Kerbela Masonic Lodge of Knoxville, TN.
Mr. David enjoyed all sports especially Tennessee football Volunteers and Titans.
A graveside service will be conducted by Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 11:00 am at Riverside Cemetery.  Tim Gentry will officiate.  The U. S. Twila “Nanny” Bush Underwood, age 80, of McMinnville passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at her home.  She was a native of Cannon Co.

Twila & Carl were both very dedicated at Simmons Chapel Free Methodist Church and loved their church family.  She was very active with the church youth until her health failed.  Twila was retired from Oster with over 35 years of service.
 
Funeral Services will be 2 PM Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Wheeler officiating.  Interment will follow at Gilley Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 3 to 9 PM Monday, January 8, 2018 at the funeral home.
