Saturday 11 August 2007Opportunities and planning for the future occupied most of the agenda at this week’s meeting of the Historic Cannon County Chamber of Commerce. Jimmy Allen with USDA Rural Development gave members an overview of the works performed across the region and the state during the past year. Many of the various grant opportunities from Rural Development could assist with needs in Cannon County. Chamber members will continue to research the programs. Rural Development has worked with other projects in the county like the new expo at the fairgrounds and the forthcoming 911 center. Carolyn Motley informed board members of several projects scheduled for next month. On Friday September 21st the Bike Ride Across Tennessee will return. A welcome station will be located on the courthouse square for the riders. The next day Saturday September 22nd will see the Color of Fall Car Show also on the square. Members and volunteers will be needed to assist with both events. Plans continued to take shape on a new project for the chamber. A fund-raiser involving a luncheon with a motivational speaker could be another event for this fall. Details should be finalized in the next few weeks and a formal announcement will be made. The board also welcomed new members; Martha Loyd a certified residential specialist and broker with Keller Williams Realty and Shirt Shack located on Main Street owned by Jim and Doris Jones.
