A local former teaching and coaching legend in the Cannon County school system passed away earlier today from complications of an automobile accident. Coach Mike Mayfield passed away around 12 noon Tuesday at the Vanderbilt Medical Center. Coach Mayfield was involved in a one car accident on East Main Street in Murfreesboro close to Central Middle School on Friday September 14th. He had been in the hospital since. Coach Mayfield was an inspiration to the many that he taught and coached throughout his high school teaching and coaching career which began in the 1970s. He was on the current Cannon County Board Of Education. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by the Woodbury Funeral Home.
