After 12 weeks of going line by line through the budget and making as manycuts as possible, the Cannon County Budget Committee will have to continue
to meet after the full county Commissioners tabled the action Saturday
during their regular quarterly meeting to pass the budget appropriations
which also tabled the actions of funding the budget with a 20 cent
property tax increase. County Commissioner Kevin George, who serves on
the budget committee wanted to wait and see what the final spending
numbers would be after the final numbers come in for the 2010-2011 fiscal
year before he votes on the appropriations for next fiscal year. After
the budget committee goes and reworks the budget and the final numbers are
out for the 2010-2011 fiscal year, the County Commissioners will meet in
a special called session. As of right now the county will continue to
operate under last year’s budget.
The meeting started off with roll call as all Commissioners were present.
The quarterly reports were approved as presented by the Cannon County
General Fund, Cannon County School System, Cannon County Highway
Commission
Anna Pittman, Kimberly Myers and Brenda Pickett were approved as notaries
Larry Richards of the Industrial Board sent a letter of resignation from
the board. County Executive Mike Gannon recommended Randy Barrett to the
board. The recommendation unanimously passed.
The Commissioners voted down resolution 2011-12 for the County to contract
with the Upper Cumberland Development District to provide Local Planning
Advisory Services
The Commissioners voted to approve resolution 2011-4 which was an
establishment of an audit committee. County Executive Mike Gannon made
some recommendations for this committee but it was found that there was
conflict of interest in two of the proposed committee members. The
commissioners then wanted Gannon to make a new list and submit it at the
next meeting.
The Commissioners voted 8-2 to approve resolution 2011-1 on second reading
to remove law enforcement powers of the Office of Constable in Cannon
County. A new state law will allow current constables to keep their law
enforcement powers until their term expires in 2014
Woodbury City Attorney Dale Peterson gave a report of the Community
Fireworks Show held on the 1st of July.
The Commissioners approved two of the three proposed road name changes
that were submitted by the Cannon County 911. The roads approved were
Taylor Lane changing the name to Horton Hollow Lane and Conley Lane
changed to Burt Lane. Half the lane is already named Burt
but the entire road will now be named Burt.
The Commissioners turned down renaming Powell Road between Bogle Road and
Pleasant View Road to be changed to Rambo Road.
The Commissioners approved Cannon County Sheriff Darrell Young’s request
to purchase a new fingerprint machine through a Justice Assistance Grant
awarded to the sheriff’s department in the amount of $18,750.00. Sheriff
Young also presented a copy of the Capital Project Budget in regards to
the Jail Renovations.
The next meeting of the Cannon County Commission will be a special called
session on a date to be determined in August.
