Fishing Rodeo Highlights Saturday’s Free Fishing Day

Cannon County will again participate in the annual state of Tennessee’s Free Fishing Day Saturday as the TWRA offers the fifth annual Fishing Rodeo for Children ages 12 and under.  The Fishing Rodeo will take place at the Stones River in Dillon Park in Woodbury.
Participants ages 12 and younger are to be accompanied by an adult and are limited to one fishing pole per person.  The rodeo will last from 8:00 to noon.  Drinks, hotdogs and chips will be provided to participants.    The rodeo is sponsored by American Legion Post 279, Piggly Wiggly, Dollar General Market and Frito Lay.  Other contributors include Stones River Watershed, Farm Bureau, Sandy Hollandsworth, Huff N Puff Trucking, State Farm Insurance, Woodbury Funeral Home, Woodbury Vet Clinic, Stop Market, Sonic, McDonalds, Woodbury Lawn and Garden, Sheriff Darrell Young and O’Reilly’s.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency provides the annual free day in hopes of increasing interest in fishing. The day allows anyone the opportunity to try this great outdoor sport, especially children. In addition, children ages 15 and younger may fish without a license beginning on Free Fishing Day through the following Friday (June 17).
Free Fishing Day and Week apply to Tennessee’s public waters, TWRA owned and operated lakes, and state park facilities. Some privately owned pay lakes continue to charge during this special day and week. Anglers may consult with lake operators if there are any questions about a particular facility.  Call Mark Vance with TWRA at 615-203-4688 for more information.
