Laptop Computers are coming to Cannon County’s Libraries

Rita Allen Cannon County Library Director, was personally presented acheck in the amount of $14,034 from 46th District State Representative Mark Pody.
The money was awarded as part of a grant that will upgrade technology
at the libraries in Cannon County.
The total allocated to Cannon County was $16,076 but the remainder $2,042 will be awarded by
Federal money after the $14,000 has been spent.
Mark Pody commented that long before he took office, State Senator Mae Beavers was hard
at work to help make this grant available. Pody added that this grant will help the
library take the next step in the continued process of being a place for
learning. Senator Mae Beavers, also present during the presentation,
mentioned she would like to thank Secretary of State Tre Hargett for
playing a key part in securing the grant.
The grant totaling more than $1.2 million dollars was awarded to over 70 communities last Monday.
Ms.Allen plans to used the money for laptops for the public to use at the
library. There will be classes offered with qualified instructors. Ms
Allen adds that the grant will allow the library to purchase a handicapped
accessible laptop for public use.
