Lionettes Even Season Record Move On To Winners Semifinal Bracket

Cannon County Lionette sophomore basketball player Jessie Kauffman picked the right time to get hot.  Kauffman scored in double figures for the third consecutive time and connected on four three point shots to lead the Lionettes to their fourth consecutive win in a row and sixth overall as the Lionetttes beat Jackson Christian in the opening round of the Friendship Christian Tournament 68-47.  The win evens Cannon’s record at 6-6 and vaults them to the winner’s bracket semifinal round where they will play Page out of Franklin at 3:00 Friday afternoon.   Lead Academy kept the lead the entire game in the boys bracket opener against the Lions at Friendship Christian School.  One of the biggest highlights in all of high school basketball occurred right before the halftime when Lead Academy up 37-17 rebounded a missed free throw.  Tyus White cradled the ball with three tenths of a second left and threw up a desperation shot in a hook fashion some 90 feet and it found its way into the goal.  The play was caught on a cell phone and is planned to be turned in to ESPN to be featured on their Top Ten Plays of the Day segments.  The game was never close and Cannon lost 71-36.  Trey Fann led the Lions in scoring with 14 points.  The Lions will next play Friday in the loser bracket semifinals against Page at 10:30 in the morning.  We will have the games broadcast live on AM-1540/FM107.1 WBRY and streaming live on wbry.com
