Monday 25 June 2007Tennessee’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May 2007 was released last week at 4.7 percent 0.3 percentage point higher than the April rate of 4.4 percent. The United States rate was 4.5 percent for May unchanged from April. County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for May 2007 showed that 50 counties increased 25 counties decreased and 20 remained unchanged. Cannon County has an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent. This is a .4 percent drop from last year’s rate of 5.0 percent. The 4.6 percent rate is also unchanged from April. Knox County registered the state’s lowest county unemployment rate at 3.1 percent up from 3.0 percent in April. Maury County had the state’s highest at 8.5 percent up from 5.3 in April followed by Lawrence County at 7.5 percent unchanged from April. Knoxville had the state’s lowest major metropolitan statistical area (MSA) rate at 3.3 percent which increased from 3.2 percent in April. The Nashville-Murfreesboro MSA was 3.6 percent up from 3.4 in April; the Chattanooga MSA was 3.7 percent up from 3.6 percent; and the Memphis MSA was 4.7 percent up from 4.6 percent.
