A Cannon County man who had active warrants for his arrest recently was taken into custody following a burglary in progress call. According to Cannon County Sheriff’s Department reports, Deputies responded to a McMinnville Hwy residence after receiving the call. After arrival it was determined that Steven Davis lived at the residence and was trying to get into the house because he locked his keys inside the house. There was no crime being committed, however when they ran Davis’s information to check for active warrants, dispatch stated that he had active warrants for revoked drivers license 3rd offense and leaving the scene of an accident. Davis was transported to the Cannon County Sheriff’s Office and warrants were served on him.

Sheriff’s Department Conducts Saturation Patrol This Past Weekend
During this past weekend the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department conducted a saturation patrol with grant funds from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office. There were five additional officers patrolling the county who cited drivers for the following: Three speeding, one improper turn, one improper passing, one seat belt and one for reckless driving.
Pinwheels All Over Middle Tennessee
There are blue and silver pinwheels blowing in the breeze on sunny, spring days all over Rutherford and Cannon Counties.
“We have a record number of organizations in Rutherford and Cannon County planting pinwheel gardens to show their support of child abuse victims this year,” announced Ryan Wallace, Child Advocacy Center Community Education Coordinator.
Prevent Child Abuse Tennessee organized the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign. There are 187 places in the State of Tennessee that have pinwheel gardens and 24 of them are in Rutherford and Cannon counties. The 2016 Pinwheels for Prevention campaign slogan is: Every child deserves a great childhood. “At the Child Advocacy Center we echo the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign slogan. Rutherford County and Cannon County are family oriented communities. We believe that every child deserves a great childhood and children who have been physically and sexually abused deserve our communities’ support,” stated Child Advocacy Center director Sharon DeBoer.
As of right now there is only one pinwheel garden in Cannon County and that is located at the Cannon County Child Advocacy Center. Businesses and organizations are urged to support this campaign For more information please call 563-9915
Town Of Woodbury Applying For Downtown Grant Program
The Town of Woodbury has formed a steering committee to apply for the Tennessee Downtown Grant Program. The five person steerign committee has partnered with the Upper Cumberland Development District to apply for this two year program. If awarded, the Town of Woodbury will be granted $15,000 to spend on the downtown business district after spending a year learning about the Main Street points of design, promotion, organization and economic restructuring. Eligible projects include awnings, facades, streetscape, lighting, way-finding and similar projects to help revitalize the downtown. The application awards will be announced in June.
Motlow State To Host Volunteer Fair Wednesday
The Motlow State Community College Moore County campus will host a Volunteer Fair in the Eoff Hall Lobby on Apr. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The purpose of the fair is to link students with local non-profit organizations who are in need of volunteers.
“Students will have the opportunity to learn more about local community service opportunities in their area,” said Jonathan Graham, Motlow Tennessee Promise Specialist. “All Tennessee Promise students must complete eight hours of community service each semester in order to remain eligible for the Tennessee Promise Scholarship. This is a wonderful way to bring community service opportunities to the student.”
The fair is hosted by Motlow State in coordination with the United Way of Coffee and Moore Counties Volunteer Management Program, and will feature eight non-profit organizations: The Humane Society, Partners for Healing, Millennium Repertory Company, Life Choices, Keep Coffee County Beautiful, Good Samaritan, Haven of Hope, and United Way.

394 People Attend Cannon County Public Safety Day
The Cannon County Public Safety Day 2016 was held on April 23, 2016. Crews from the Cannon County Rescue Squad, Cannon County Fire Department, Woodbury Fire Department, Auburntown Fire Department, Cannon County EMS, Cannon County Health Department,
St. Thomas Stones River Hospital, Evergreen Haz-Mat, Tennessee Forestry Division, Tennessee HighwayPatrol, Tennessee Highway Safety Office, National Weather Service, DeKalb/Cannon County ARES, Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation, Middle Tennessee Natural Gas, Vanderbilt LifeFlight, Cannon County E911, Woodbury Police Department, and the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department attended the event. Staff from the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties were also present at the event.
The Cannon County Rescue Squad hosted the event and provided work related to the event The Rescue Squad, Fire Departments, EMS, and Law Enforcement crews demonstrated emergency equipment to participants at the event. The St. Thomas Stones River Hospital and the Cannon County Health Department provided health screenings. Middle Tennessee Natural Gas and Middle Tennessee Electric provided home safety training to first responders and the participants. Vanderbilt LifeFlight demonstrated the use and landing of the air medical helicopter. The Tennessee Highway Patrol demonstrated their rollover prevention and seat belt safety trainer. The Tennessee Highway Safety Office demonstrated their seat belt convincer trainer. The DeKalb/Cannon County ARES, Cannon County 911, and the National Weather Servicedemonstrated disaster preparedness and emergency radio communications. Participants in the event were encouraged to register for a drawing for home fire extinguishers and smoke detectors. Participants and first responders were provide food and water. The food was prepared and donated by the Cannon County Rescue Squad and Bunny Bread. Water was donated by Evergreen and the local Dollar General Store.
An additional event will be held at the 2016 CannonCounty Good Ole Days where volunteers from the Cannon County Rescue Squad and the Cannon County Fire Departments will engage the public in home fire prevention and safety. Participants will be allowed to register for home fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.An event will be planed following the 2016 Cannon County Good Ole Day to train selected winners in home fire extinguisher and smoke detector utilization and installation.
Seventy-nine participants registered for the event.

Broken Headlight Leads To DUI Arrest
A McMinnville Hwy man was arrested in Murfreesboro over the weekend after witnesses called police stating that he was driving all over the road. According to Murfreesboro Police Department reports. Officers stopped Dee Emmett Carter of McMinnville Hwy Woodbury at the intersection of Broad and Church Street after observing the car he was driving which was a 2009 Grey Chevrolet Malibu with one headlight out. This was the same car that police had received a call about. After pulling him over for the light law violation, officers smelled the odor of an intoxicant. Officers stated that Carter had blood shot eyes and slurred speech. Carter failed sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for DUI. He will answer to the charge on June 28th in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
See Spot Run Is Sunday
Canines and their humans are welcome to participate in the 11th annual “See Spot Run” 5K Run/Walk, which begins at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 1, at MTSU’s Peck Hall.
Proceeds from the event will support the MTSU Blitz Build and Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity. MTSU’s Office of Student Organizations and Service and the Sigma Pi fraternity are sponsoring the event.

Dixie Line Days Comes To Wartrace
Dixie Line Days is coming to Wartrace this Friday and Saturday April 29th and 30th . It’s a festival of trains large and small with operating model railroads, dealer swap tables, model contests, and how-to clinics. The train show takes place in several locations in downtown Wartrace from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Friday and from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday. Photographers and book authors will make their presentations on Saturday from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM in the Smith House Dinner Theater downtown. County Unemployment Rates For March Are In
County unemployment rates for March 2016, released last week, show the rates decreased in 92 counties, increased in one, and remained the same in two counties.
Cannon County’s unemployment rate for March was 4 percent down three tenths of a percentage point from the February 4.3 percent. Out of an estimated work force of 6030 people 5790 people were employed while 240 people were unemployed. All surrounding counties showed a decrease in unemployment too. Coffee County and Warren County were both at four percent, Dekalb at five percent, Rutherford had the lowest unemployment rate of all surrounding counties at 3.1 percent while Wilson’s was at 3.4 percent. Cannon’s unemployment rate in March of 2015 was 6.4 percent
Tennessee’s preliminary unemployment rate for March was 4.5 percent, down four tenths of a percentage point from the previous month’s revised rate. The U.S. preliminary rate for March was 5.0 percent, up one tenth of a percentage point from the previous month.
