Woodbury Board of Mayor And Aldermen Act On Frequencies, Zoning and Water

Woodbury Board of Mayor and Aldermen covered a variety of activities at their January meeting. A public hearing was held regarding Ordinance No. 429, an ordinance to update the Town of Woodbury Water and Sewer Department cross-connection policy as recommended by the State of Tennessee, Division of Water Supply. One client of the system, Doug Boatary addressed the board and members of the audience speaking on behalf of the new policy. He recommended to the board that changing the policy was only the first step, the change would need to be enforced.
Alderman JoAnn Davis made a motion to approve the ordinance, Vice-Mayor Charlie Harrell seconded the motion and the board approved.
Roy Sullivan, Director of Cannon County 911 Emergency Communications addressed the board concerning a proposal for a radio frequency for the Woodbury Fire Department. A frequency is currently licensed to the Town of Woodbury. If not used within a year, another agency can apply for the license. Fire Chief Bill Johnson and Director of Public Works both spoke in favor of placing the frequency in service.
Vice Mayor Harrell made the motion, seconded by Alderman Faye Knox and approved by the board, to prepare for keeping the frequency when crafting the fire department budget in the new fiscal year. The cost of adding the service will come in adding a transmitter and antenna. Sullivan believes that cost will be just under $9,000.00.
Lisa Baird, Cannon County S.A.V. E. addressed the board about the need for funding of the domestic violence agency. Baird said that the agency may receive funding thru grants as early as this March, however the office needs funding to keep the doors open. One woman who received assistance from S.A.V.E. spoke to the aldermen on how the agency helped her during a very difficult time. She now volunteers at the agency. After some discussion, a motion was made and approved to allocate $2,000.00 to the domestic violence center. Mayor Patrick suggested that Baird also contact the county commission and the Auburntown council to assist with funding.
A public hearing regarding Ordinance No. 428, an ordinance to rezone approximately 1.5 +/- acres, located on Murfreesboro Road, from R-1 Residential, to C-3 Commercial was held. The request for the zoning change was made by William B. Smith of Smith Funeral Home, and recommended by the Woodbury Planning Commission at their November meeting. This was the second and final reading of the ordinance. The board approved making the change in zone for the property.
Fire Chief Bill Johnson gave an update to the board on status of grants for the fire department. At the present time the department is still in the running for funding of; a new fire hall, new fire truck and equipment for the town’s firefighters.
