Jaylee Anaya Hackney

Jaylee Anaya Hackney passed peacefully in the arms of her loving parents on December 11, 2019 at Vanderbilt hospital.  She was born December 10, 2019, weighed 3 lbs. 12 oz. and was 17 inches long.

Jaylee was the daughter of Jamie and Julie George Hackney of Woodbury.  In addition to her parents, she is survived by her big sister, Jaysie and big brother, Jarren, maternal grandfather, Terry George of Hattisburg, MS.; maternal grandmother, Beverly King of Woodbury, paternal grandparents, Dwight and Rillis Hackney of Murfreesboro. Also surviving are several loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She was already loved by so many.

Jaylee was preceded in death by her grandmother, Oralia George.

Graveside services will be 11 am Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Riverside Gardens with her grandfather, Dwight Hackney conducting her service.

Ronald Dean Inyart

Mr. Ronald “Ron” Dean Inyart, 73, of Bradyville, TN passed away on December 10, 2019.  He was born in Huntington, Indiana on May 27, 1946.  His parents were the late Lester Ray Inyart and Virginia Elsie Gothard Inyart.

     He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Floyd Inyart; son, Matthew (Stephanie) Inyart of Carthage; daughters, Carolynn Ann (Ronnie) Campbell of Huntland and Madeline (Daniel) Mahon of Tullahoma; five grandchildren, Cooper Inyart, Coleman Inyart, Courtney (Joe) McBee, Dean Harrell, Emma Harrell and a sixth grandchild expected soon. 

     Mr. Inyart was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam War.  During his time in the military, he was stationed in various states.  His last duty station was in Smyrna.  He soon found his way to Cannon County where he made his home in the Bradyville community.  He met his future wife, Mrs. Roxanne, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, while she was working as a nurse. He was working for the Cannon County Ambulance Service.  They celebrated 41 years of marriage in September. 

     He had a love for the community and wanted to serve.  He was the Chief Engineer and co-founder of the Mooretown Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a co-Captain and co-founder of the Cannon County Rescue Squad. He is a remaining a lifelong member at both organizations.  He was an EMT and was one of the first EMTs in the state to become IV certified.  He also taught CPR and First Aid classes to many in the community.  He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader for many years and coached boys baseball and girls softball.  He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #18 in Murfreesboro, where he was a Master Mason for over 40 years. 

     His work life was very active. He helped start a private fleet for delivery at Colonial Corp. for the shirt factory.  He drove a school bus route for Coffee County Schools for 13 years.

Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 4-6 pm. Kyle Douglas Todd

Kyle Douglas Todd, age 18, of Woodbury passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Survivors include his parents, Jeff & Jeannette Gaither Todd of Woodbury; Sister, Kaley (Carter) Rogers of Woodbury; Grandparents, Karen Gaither of Woodbury, Ronnie & Judy Todd of Woodbury, & Kay Hargis of Smyrna; Great Aunt & Uncle, Nancy & Larry Elkins of Murfreesboro; Cousin & Best Friend, Tommy Melton; and Girlfriend, Laura Beth Nichols of Woodbury. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, & friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jimmy Gaither.

Kyle was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church and was a Senior at Cannon County High School where he was to graduate in May.  He worked at Tractor Supply Company and the Woodbury Co-Op.  He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it be hunting, fishing, or camping.

Liza Dawn Luna

Liza Dawn Luna, age 47, of Monroe passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at her home.  She was a native of Cannon Co.

Survivors include her mother, Ann (Randy) Lewis Vinson of Liberty; Son, Caleb Luna of Smithville; Sister, Nakia (Anthony) Lawson of Smithville; and Fiancee, Christopher Franklin of Monroe.

Liza was an artist and made beautiful paintings.

Ben Walter Batey

Ben Walter Batey, 81, of Morrison passed away Wednesday, December 04, 2019 at Woodbury Health and Rehab.  He was born in Rutherford Co., TN.

He is survived by his wife 59 years, Glenda Russ Batey of Morrison; children, Glenn Batey of Morrison, Timothy Batey of Bainbridge, NY, Deborah Page of Afton, NY and Shannon Dewey of Morrison; grandchildren, Alexander (Megan) Batey of Murfreesboro, Jeramy (Tani Mara) Batey of Enid, OK, Tracey (Joshua) Williams of Oxford, NY., Shaina (John) Hinman of Windsor, NY., Kelly (Lee) Hicks of Bradyville, Naomi (Clint) Phillips of Bradyville; 13 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Batey was preceded in death by his parents, James Taylor and Willie Smartt Batey and his siblings, Lillard, Dudley, George, J.T. Bobby, Thomas, Harry Batey, Marion Chinn, Mabel Blair and Pauline Rowland.  
Ben was a member of the Barren Fork Baptist church and was a farmer.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  
Funeral Services will be 1 pm Saturday, December 7, 2019 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Dave Lawson and Bro. Leon Edwards officiating.  Interment will follow in McMahan Cemetery. Roy Allen Sweeney, Jr.

Mr. Roy Allen Sweeney, Jr., 71, of Lewisburg passed away on December 3, 2019.  He was born on February 13, 1948 in Columbia, TN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Allen Sweeney, Sr. and Evelyn Willie Sharpe Sweeney, also by two brothers, Frank Sweeney and Tony Sweeney.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Faye Sweeney; daughter, Tanya (David) Suiter of Christiana; brothers, David (Candice) Sweeney of Manchester and Steve Hunter of Columbia; a sister, Alice (Ray Underwood) Sweeney of Rome, GA; sister-in-law, Peggy Sweeney of Murfreesboro; one granddaughter, Zandra Hope Lynch; and three great grandchildren, Nevaeh Lynch, Faithlynn Lynch, and Timothy Nicholson.

Over the years Mr. Sweeney worked many construction jobs as a heavy equipment operator and a dump truck driver.  Most recently he was working for the Bedford County Highway and Solid Waste Department.  He and his wife had been married 44 years.  In his younger years he liked to come to Woodbury and ride horses. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed fishing.  He liked to go gambling and he raised game roosters for fun and sport.  You could often find him in his recliner watching football or NASCAR.

Virginia Hope Patterson Briggs

Virginia Hope Patterson Briggs, 91, passed away Sunday, Dec. 02, 2019 at her home following an extended illness. She was born in Snake Run, W.V. and moved to Woodbury in 1972.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Prater, Jeffery Briggs and Lisa (Donnie) Thomas all of Woodbury, Brian Briggs of Shelbyville, Kathy Briggs of St. Petersburg, FL., Christine Tenpenny of Gassaway; grandchildren, Crystal Collene, Samantha Briggs, Shane Tenpenny, Michelle Trail, Elizabeth Wilson, Amber Milligan, Marcus Tenpenny, Erica Martin, Austin Trail, Jeremy Tenpenny, Britteny Tenpenny, Tyler Martin, Christopher Thomas; siblings, Margaret Roach of Howell, MI., Hilda Amyx of Hernando, FL., Jay Patterson of Houghton Lake, MI.; 26 Great Grandchildren also survive
Ms. Briggs was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe Rife Patterson and Minnie Pearl Bryant; her husband, Richard Briggs and her son, Gregory Briggs.
Virginia was a member for almost 50 years with Woodbury United Methodist Church.  She accomplished many things in her life, including being the first woman EMT in Woodbury, a model in the ‘50’s, a farmer and raised registered Polled Hereford Cattle.  She enjoyed square dancing, music, sewing and gardening. To her family, she was the best mother and grandmother.

Regenia K. Grissom

Regenia K. Grissom, age 70, of Murfreesboro, TN, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 29, 2019. A native of Cannon County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Odie Sissom Tucker. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Tucker; brothers, Edward Tucker and Milan Tucker; sister-in-law, Dorothy Tucker; father and mother-in-law, Floyd and Mildred Grissom; brother and sister-in-law, David and Kathy Grissom; and nephew, Michael Tucker.

Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Teb Batey will officiate. Burial will be in Midway Cemetery in Bradyville, TN.

She is survived by her loving husband Richard Grissom; son, Greg Grissom of Nashville; daughter, Tanya Landis and her husband Casey of Murfreesboro; sisters, Pat Fann and her husband Fred Fann Sr. of Woodbury and Faye Elam of Murfreesboro; brothers Kenneth Tucker and Avery Tucker both of Woodbury; sisters-in-law, Darlene Tucker and Mickie Tucker of Woodbury; great nephew, Selvin Stephenson of Murfreesboro whom she shared a very close bond with; and other numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, close friends; and her Salem Creek Church of Christ family where she was a member.

Mrs. Grissom was a 1968 graduate of Cannon County High School. She worked at State Farm Insurance in Murfreesboro for over 40 years and earned her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriting designation in 2001. Besides her family and her church, her interest included MTSU Blue Raider basketball and the Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration. She was an avid volunteer for Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), A Soldier’s Child and the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Fund.

Glenn Fann, Fred Fann Jr., Doug Grissom, Ken Tucker, Keith Stephenson, and Robert Ward will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Grissom can be made to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Fund, the Building Fund for Salem Creek Church of Christ; or to the American Cancer Society Memorial Foundation – Hope Lodge.

William Ray Bogle

William “Billy” Ray Bogle, 73, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at his home.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elaine Byars Bogle of Bradyville; children, Billy Wayne (Jamie) Bogle of Bradyville; Carolyn (John) Constantine of Manchester; Kim (Josh) Schuster of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Ashley (Robert) Prater, Allison Bogle, Chrissy (Ben) Davis, Emily Garrison, Randall Jennings (Allison), Alana Jennings (Cody), Alisha Jennings (Aaron), John Constantine, Wyatt Constantine, Emily Schuster, AJ Schuster and great grandchildren, Aubree, Harley, Rosslynn, Jesse, Raylyn  and Hazley.  

He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Mackie Watson Bogle.

Billy was a mechanic, a farmer and he was a veteran serving in the Army.  He loved playing with his grand babies.

James Sanford Vance

James Sanford Vance, 91, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at his home. 

He is survived by his sons Russell (Glena) Vance of Woodbury, Roger (Lana) Vance of Manchester; grandchildren, James Carrick and Abi-Gail Jernigan; great grand children; sister in law Mamie Vance; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Callie Duggin Vance and Enzo Vance; his wife Eleanor Jean Vance; and brother Hoyte Vance.

He was a former preacher at Coopers Chapel in Smithville TN, he worked over 40 years at Colonial Shirt Factory. James loved to fish, watch birds and building bird houses.

Funeral Services will be 2 pm Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Plainview Baptist Church with Bro. Jonathon Womack and Bro. Charley Heath officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3 pm – 8 pm Monday, November 25, 2019 at Woodbury Funeral Home and 12 pm until time of service Tuesday at Plainview Baptist Church..
